Descended from Abraham

Old Testament Given:             Genesis 12:3 – “And in you (Abraham) all the families of the earth will be blessed.”

New Testament Fulfilled:        Matthew 1:1 – “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham.”

On the throne of David

Old Testament Given:             Isaiah 9:7 – “Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom…”.

New Testament Fulfilled:        Luke 1:32,33 – “…and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Judah forever…”.

Born in Bethlehem

Old Testament Given:             Micah 5:2 – “But you, Bethlehem, …though you are little among the thousands of Judah, ….out of you shall come the One to be ruler in Israel…”.

New Testament Fulfilled:        Luke 2:4-7 —  “And Joseph went up from Galilee…into Judea, to the city of David, Bethlehem, …with Mary, his betrothed wife…and she brought forth her first-born Son.”

Born of a virgin

Old Testament Given:             Isaiah 7:14 – “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son and shall call His name Immanuel.”

New Testament Fulfilled:        Luke 1:26-31 – “The virgin’s name was Mary. …The angel said…behold you will conceive…and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.”

Killing of children

Old Testament Given:             Jeremiah 31:15 – “Thus says the Lord: A voice was heard in Ramah…Rachel weeping for her children.”

New Testament Fulfilled:        Matthew 2:16-18 – “Herod…sent forth and put to death all the male children that were in Bethlehem…from two years old and under…then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying “…Rachel weeping for her children…”.

Flee into Egypt

Old Testament Given:             Hosea 11:1 – “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son.”

New Testament Fulfilled:        Matthew 2:14,15 – “(Joseph) took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt…that it might be fulfilled…“Out of Egypt I called My Son.”
